In the early 90s, Ubud has already been the top destination for tourists to relax and get rid of their hectic lives. Wapa di Ume (formerly Waka di Ume) was built in 1993 by Mr. I Wayan Pasek or Mr. Wapa. Situated at 700 above sea level and surrounded by the panoramic view of paddy fields and the horizon of southern Bali has generated the name “di Ume”; “di” = in the, and “Ume” = rice fields, which inspires the “bundled paddies” logo that represents the sustainable and green living at the resort.
And, the former name “Waka” was initially derived from the father-in-law of Mr. Wapa, Mr. I Wayan Kari (1930-2014), who was also a father, a teacher, and the key influencer in Mr. Wapa’s hospitality business career. The resort was first managed under the Waka Hotel Management by Mr. Wapa’s brother in laws, then in 2013, the resort became independently run.
Having the opportunity to get involved in promoting Bali through the hospitality industry, Mr. Wapa pointed out that the resort and the team should be small, intimate, and strong in order to create the most memorable experience for all guests. And most importantly, it is mandatory to keep the resort up-to-date, innovative and continuously well-maintained. As time went by, the resort was slowly expanded from only 1 restaurant, 1 swimming pool, and 4 rooms; however, after passing through the bitter-sweet flashes for almost 23 years, now Wapa di Ume is developed with a total of 2 restaurant outlets, 2 swimming pools, and 33 unit rooms and villas.
The second property in a village called Sidemen, in Karangasem, Bali East, opens in 2018 with the same design, concept, and philosophy.
